Billy Bob Thornton “Joaquins” His Way Through An Interview with CBC Radio

Posted by tvjunkywright on April 9, 2009

Billy Bob Thorton

We all remember Joaquin Phoenix’s hilariously odd interview on David Letterman a few months ago.

Well folks, this might top it.

Actor/musician Billy Bob Thornton was a guest, along side his band The Boxmasters, on a CBC Radio show hosted by Jian Ghomeshi. The interview was to promote their tour. But things got odd when Thornton could barely answer the host’s simple questions.

Exhibit A:

Q: Billy Bob, you guys formed only in the last couple of years, right?

A: I don’t know what you are talking about.

Q: How so?

A: I don’t know what you mean by that.

Q: When did the band form?

A: I’m not sure what that means.

When asked about Willie Nelson, who is also touring with the band, he responds…

Q: What do you learn from Willie Nelson, Billy Bob?

A: I’ve never met him.

Q: (Laughs) Are you being ironic, or are you being serious?

A: I don’t really know him …

Q: You guys don’t really hang out on tour?

A Um …

Q: You don’t know what I mean? Why do I get the impression you are going to answer with you don’t know what I mean if I ask you things.

Q: Did Willie choose you guys to go on tour?

A: Shit, I don’t know.

Was he being funny? Was he drunk? High? Maybe missing Angelina Jolie? Only Billy knows. Nonetheless, it makes for a great watch.

“Do what they teach you in the Academy, you will die.”

That’s one of the brutally honest lessons given to rookie-cop Ben Sherman who’s starting out with the LAPD.

Tonight NBC premieres Southland, a police drama that takes an in-depth look at the lives of LAPD officers on the streets, and at home.

The cast features Benjamin McKenzie (The O.C.) as the rookie-cop Ben Sharman, Michael Cudlitz (Lost, Standoff) as veteran officer John Cooper, and Regina King (Down To Earth, Ray) as Detective Lydia Adams.

The show is also from the same producers as E.R.

If you were a fan of Training Day, I have a feeling this will be right down your alley. We get a look at the first day on the job of Officer Sherman, who quickly learns that what he learns in the Academy is nothing like the streets of L.A.

Here’s a preview for Southland. You can catch it tonight on NBC or CTV.

Writer’s Strike

NBC Will Bring Back Heroes, But Cuts Episodes

Posted by tvjunkywright on April 23, 2009

Despite slumping ratings, NBC has decided to bring back Heroes, but there’s a catch.

Season four of the series will be shorter. It will air between 18 and 20 episodes, without interruption, instead of its usual longer season. It could be placed as a mid-season replacement, like ABC’s LOST and FOX’s 24.

The once ratings hit has taken a hit over the years. Since the 2007 Writers Strike, Heroes has never quite recovered. Season two of the series was widely criticized by fans.

Currently on its third season, it is averaging over 7 million viewers every week. That’s compared to the 14 million viewers it attracted during the first season.

Another hit against Heroes is that next season NBC will be losing its 10 pm ET timeslot due to Jay Leno’s new primetime show. This means that five scripted show will be moved or cut.

But despite slumping ratings, and a shrinking schedule, Heroes will be back for season four. But who will make it past next Monday’s season finale?

Waterboarding

Olbermann Takes Up On Hannity’s Waterboarding Offer

Posted by tvjunkywright on April 28, 2009

msnbc-fox

When FOX News host Sean Hannity said he would be willing to undergo waterboarding for charity, MSNBC news host Keith Olbermann immediately called him out on it.

Olbermann has offered $1000 to the families of U.S. troops for every second Hannity can last during this technique.

This stems for the waterboarding debate being pushed back into the spotlight after President Obama released documents stating that the U.S. was using forceful techniques, including waterboarding, on detainees.

During a discussion with a guest on his show, Sean Hannity was asked if he was willing to go through the technique that he supports. Hannity said yes, for charity.

Obviously these two hosts take different stances on this debate. Hannity, the conservative-leaning news host, agrees with “enhanced interrogation”. Olbermann, the liberal-leaning news host, believe it’s torture.

What do you all think? Will Hannity do good on his offer?

Trump Teams Up With the WWE Again, “Buys” Monday Night RAW

Posted by tvjunkywright on June 16, 2009

trump-mcmahon1

During last night’s three hour telecast of Monday Night RAW, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon strutted to the ring and announced that he had an announcement that would change the WWE.

McMahon announces that he sold the Monday Night RAW brand to none other than….DONALD TRUMP.

That’s right folks, Donald Trump know owns Monday Night RAW.

In his first decision in power, Trump makes a splash right away, announcing that next week for the first time ever, Monday Night RAW will be airing commercial-free.

Donald Trump will also be appearing live on the show next week.

This isn’t the first time Trump has teamed up with the WWE for a storyline.

At Wrestlemania 23, Donald Trump shaved Vince McMahon’s head in the middle of the ring in front of the world.

WWE Monday Night RAW is among the top rated shows on cable, and airs weekly on The USA Network (and The Score in Canada).
