Channing Tatum's Phenomenal Career

Star of movies like Dear John, Coach Carter, and 21 Jump Street, Channing Tatum is one of the most popular actors today. Born in Alabama, he first appeared as a fashion model before he began acting in 2004. His first role on television, a minor part on CSI: Miami, sprung his career into action. Since, Channing has appeared on countless films like Stop-Loss, Havoc, and Haywire.

Channing’s more recent works include Foxcatcher in 2014 and Magic Mike XXL earlier this year. Since he begun his career in acting, Channing has experienced much success. With a huge fan base and great rankings, especially among female viewers, Channing has topped many lists as one of the greatest actors in Hollywood. Born in 1980, Channing grew up in Cullman, Alabama before later moving to Wetumpka and later to Mississippi at only six years old.

Channing went on to attend high school in Tampa, Florida at Gaither High School before transferring to Tampa Catholic High School when he finished up his sophomore year. When he graduated, Channing was offered a football scholarship to attend Glenville State College in West Virginia, book he turned down the offer so he could pursue his other interests.

Channing has often joked about how his success found him. Channing has admitted that he never really dreamed of becoming an actor, and it all started with a modeling agency who found him on the streets when he was walking around Miami. He was soon signed on by them and began appearing in print ads for Nautica, Gap, American Eagle Outfitters, Abercrombie & Fitch, and countless other brands.

Channing got his first video appearance when he was picked to play in the music video for Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” song. He worked as a dancer in the video, but soon took to other video endeavors when he was cast as an actor for commercials like Mountain Dew and Pepsi.

His career started with dancing and modeling, but acting quickly found its way into Channing’s life in 2004 when he was given a small role on CSI: Miami. His first professional television performance launched him into the industry of television and film, and the small part inspired him to pursue acting full-time, leaving behind his success career as a dancer and model.

Already comfortable in front of the camera, Channing began with his next film role the following year when he scored the part in the drama, Coach Carter. His first role put him opposite acting legend Samuel L. Jackson.

It was that same year when Channing participated in the productions of Havoc, Supercross and Steven Spielberg’s own, War of the Worlds. Channing’s success was quickly escalating when he hit it big in 2006, landing the starring role in Step Up where he co-starred with Jenna Dewan. The two co-stars would actually go on to marry each other just a few years later in 2009.

Channing also got the lead role in She’s the Man that same year, and a primary part in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, for which he won the Special Jury Prize at the famed Sundance Film Festival. Channing also received nominations for Independent Spirit and Gotham awards, along with receiving some nods from critics who praised the up-and-coming actor.

Throughout 2007 and 2008, Channing acted in a total of four films, but he hit the big screen in 2009 with two of his biggest projects yet, those being G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Public Enemy where he worked with Michael Mann and starred with Christian Bale and Johnny Depp. Channing’s many roles proved his flexibility, and he was offered a change of pace with multiple action dramas over the next few years.

Channing soon took the lead in Dear John, one of his most successful projects yet. Many of his fans today say that it was his best work, but others enjoyed his acting with the comedy The Dilemma. It was around this time that he acted in the action film Haywire, the romance The Vow, and the famed comedy/action film 21 Jump Street.

Channing’s decision to avoid getting stuck playing just “one part” clearly worked. While many critics expressed their concern about hit jumping around from genre to genre, Channing’s choice led him down a huge, varied path of success. Channing has made a name for himself as a successful actor who can pull off actions, dramas, comedies, and romances without missing a beat. His versatile acting has put him at the top of many lists and has led him to many awards. Today, his still-growing fan base seem to tag along to whatever movie he is starring in.
